European aircraft maker Airbus signed for A380 four-engine airplanes with Emirates
European aircraft maker Airbus have completed discussions with
Emirates Airline, and signed the firm contract for 50 additional A380
four-engine airplanes originally announced at the Dubai Airshow earlier.
The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner.
It is the world’s largest passenger airliner; many airports have
upgraded their facilities to accommodate it because of its size.
Emirates said it will purchase these 50 Airbus SAS A380 superjumbos, the
biggest single deal for the largest commercial jetliner.
The contract documents were finalised by Tim Clark, President of Emirates, during a visit to Airbus’ Headquarters in Toulouse, France this week.
Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline said on the occasion: “The A380 is our flagship aircraft. It is popular with our customers and delivers results for us in terms of operational performance. That is why we have ordered these additional 50 aircraft, to add to our A380 fleet.”
“This order is a major vote of confidence in the A380. Since delivery of their first aircraft in July 2008, Emirates’ A380 fleet has grown to be the largest in the world with 44 A380s in operation. We congratulate Emirates on this impressive achievement and thank the airline for their continued support of our flagship aircraft. As Tim Clark has often said, “The A380 really is a game-changing aircraft.” commented John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers.
Airbus is reversing a string of A380 setbacks after Air France-KLM Group, Europe’s largest carrier, followed Lufthansa’s cancellations by saying it may drop two superjumbos for smaller planes. Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. has said it can’t be sure to take any of its six A380s on order, while Japan’s Skymark Airlines Inc. said this month it still needs financing for the planes it wants.
