VI- Ashoka The Great Quotes

Quote 1: It is forbidden to decry other sects; the true believer gives honour to whatever in them is worthy of honour.

In Hindi: अन्य सम्प्रदायों की निंदा करना निषेध है; सच्चा आस्तिक उन सम्प्रदायों में जो कुछ भी सम्मान देने योग्य है उसे सम्मान देता है।

Quote 2: All men are my children. What I desire for my own children, and I desire their welfare and happiness both in this world and the next, that I desire for all men. You do not understand to what extent I desire this, and if some of you do understand, you do not understand the full extent of my desire.

In Hindi: सभी इन्सान मेरे बच्चे हैं। जो मैं अपने बच्चों के लिए चाहता हूँ, मैं इस दुनिया में और इसके बाद भी उनका भला और ख़ुशी चाहता हूँ, वहीँ मैं हर इंसान के लिए चाहता हूँ। आप नहीं समझते हैं कि किस हद तक मैं ऐसा चाहता हूँ, और अगर कुछ लोग समझते हैं, तो वे ये नहीं समझते कि मेरी इस इच्छा की पूरी हद क्या है।

Quote 3: I have enforced the law against killing certain animals and many others, but the greatest progress of righteousness among men comes from the exhortation in favor of non-injury to life and abstention from killing living beings.

In Hindi: मैंने कुछ जानवरों और कई अन्य प्राणियों को मारने के खिलाफ कानून लागू किया है, लेकिन लोगों के बीच धर्म की सबसे बड़ी प्रगति जीवित प्राणियों को चोट न पहुंचाने और उन्हें मारने से बचने का उपदेश देने से आती है।

Quote 4: Every religion has the wholesome core of love, compassion and good will. The outer shell differs, but give importance to the inner essence and there will be no quarrel. Don’t condemn anything, give importance to the essence of every religion and there will be real peace and harmony.

In Hindi: हर धर्म में प्रेम, करुणा, और भलाई का पोषक कोर है। बाहरी खोल में अंतर है, लेकिन भीतरी सार को महत्त्व दीजिये और कोई विवाद नहीं होगा। किसी चीज को दोष मत दीजिये, हर धर्म के सार को महत्त्व दीजिये और तब वास्तविक शांति और सद्भाव आएगा।

Quote 5: One should not honor only one’s own religion and condemn other religions.

In Hindi: किसी को सिर्फ अपने धर्म का सम्मान और दूसरों के धर्म की निंदा नहीं करनी चाहिए।

Quote 6: One should honor other religions for various reasons. By so doing one helps one’s own religion to grow and also renders service to the religions of others.

In Hindi: विभिन्न कारणों से अन्य धर्मों का सम्मान करना चाहिए। ऐसा करने से आप अपने धर्म को विकसित करने में मदद करते हैं और दुसरे धर्मों को भी सेवा प्रदान करते हैं।

Quote 7: Let all listen and be willing to listen to the doctrines professed by others.”

In Hindi: चलिए हम सब सुनते हैं, और दूसरों के द्वारा बताये गए सिद्धांतों को सुनने के लिए तैयार रहते हैं।

Quote 8: The most noble victory is that of love, it wins the hearts forever.

In Hindi: सबसे महान जीत प्रेम की होती है, ये हमेशा के लिए दिल जीत लेती है।

Quote 9: He who does reverence to his own sect, while disparaging the sects of others with intent to enhance the glory of his own sect, by such conduct inflicts the severest injury on his own sect.

In Hindi: वह जो अपने सम्प्रदाय की महिमा बढाने के इरादे से उसका आदर करता है और दूसरों के संप्रदाय को नीचा दिखाता है, ऐसे कृत्यों से वह अपने ही सम्प्रदाय को गंभीर चोट पहुंचता है।

Quote 10: Father and mother should be respected and so should elders, kindness to living beings should be made strong and the truth should be spoken.

In Hindi: माता-पिता का सम्मान किया जाना चाहिए और बड़ों का भी, जीवित प्राणियों के प्रति दयालुता को मजबूत किया जाना चाहिए और सत्य बोला जाना चाहिए।
