Method 1: Reset your Cable Modem

After a long time of use, it is always recommended to perform periodic reset of your Internet modem. This would set back the modem to its factory default state, allowing you to get more speed.  To Reset your Comcast of XFINITY modem, follow these steps.
  • Shut down your computer and the modem (turn it off).
  • Find the reset button on the back of the unit. Use a pen or pencil (do not use sharp metallic things) and press the reset button until you see the lights on the front of the unit goes off.
  • Now release the reset button and wait for the unit to cycle up.
  • Unplug the cable modem from the electric outlet.
  • Wait for 10 or 20 seconds, and plug-in in the modem adapter to an electric outlet.
  • Restart your computer and see if the Comcast internet speed has been increased.
